I agree with almost everything you say, except I find this very misleading: "removal of carbon from the atmosphere through natural processes requires centuries to millennia." The cited paper makes no allowance for restoration efforts, such as the One Earth proposal that will be taken up for approval next year in renewing the UN Biodiversity Conventions. This is typical scientific materialist myopia that still refuses to acknowledge that the planet is a living organism, and by acknowledging her immense resilient powers, and enlisting her aid (and the aid of keystone species like whales), we can actually reverse CO2 accumulation.
